Day Trips

Explore Beyond Monterey

  • Big Sur: Offering a wide variety of activities and areas to explore including restaurants, gift shops, art galleries, beaches and more, these are just a few of the wonders that make Big Sur a great destination to visit. Take in the natural beauty where wildflowers always seem to be blooming, California condors are flying overhead and the sea otters play in the beds of kelp. Make sure to bring a pair of sturdy shoes when you visit the Big Sur beaches, as a short hike awaits you to access this part of the area. (831) 667-2100
  • Carmel Valley: In Carmel Valley you can wine, dine, play, and shop to your hearts content. Carmel Valley is the home to several Wineries that offer wine tasting tours. Sip on a locally produced vino then head over to Carmel Valley Road where you’ll find three distinct shopping areas; Carmel Valley Village, Mid-Valley Shopping Center, and the third area is at the mouth of the valley where Carmel River runs into the Pacific Ocean, at the crossroads of Highway 1 and Rio Road. Or, if you prefer, check out some of the local art galleries showcasing artists who have no doubt been inspired by the area’s naturally beautiful scenery.
  • Carmel-by-the-Sea: This famously idyllic and picturesque town just south of Monterey has been a haven for artists, poets, writers and celebrities for decades. Visit the pristine Carmel beach and explore the quaint storybook atmosphere of the town, checking out shops, art galleries, restaurants, hidden courtyards and unique annual events, such as the world-renowned Carmel Bach Festival.
  • 17-Mile Drive: This scenic road winds through thick forests and picturesque coastal vistas in the famed gated community of Pebble Beach. View renowned natural landmarks, including The Lone Cypress, Seal and Bird Rocks, Fanshell Beach, Spanish Bay and Carmel Bay.
  • Marilyn Monroe Spa: Treat yourself to a full day of pampering at this full-service spa at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Spa and Hotel. Designed as if you were walking into Marilyn’s California home, the atmosphere at this spa is decidedly different – vibrant, playful and social. The facilities feature walk-in rain showers, saunas, beautifully appointed suites complete with a luxurious tub, couple’s rooms and, because Marilyn loved to read, a library. (831) 657-6734
  • Lover’s Point Beach: This beautiful stretch of beach is used for a wide range of activities, including picnicking, water sports, swimming, fishing and surfing. Popular for weddings and made famous by the annual Feast of Lanterns pageant, Lover’s Point has something for everyone.
  • Asilomar State Beach: Located in Pacific Grove, this beach area offers swimming, surfing, tide-pooling, walking and kite-flying. From the beach, you can enjoy native plants, otters, seals, sea birds, deer and other wildlife, while the boardwalk makes for a pleasant stroll on the edge of Spanish Bay Golf Course.
